What's green got to do with it?
It seems in every corner of our world, the color green has infused and changed the color of our modern life. We eat green, build green, we drive green and more and more, it means that consumers are increasingly interested in buying green and support companies whose products and services are beneficial or less harmful to the environment.
The green concept in relation with pest control may not seem probable. Not so long ago, pest control meant the application of pesticides to eliminate pests. Pest management over the years, have evolved into a more precise science. Leading manufactures and pest management professionals have been refining products and methods in order to eliminate target pests with the lowest impact on non-target pests and the environment.
California American Exterminator has developed a green program for our sensitive accounts including organic food markets and certified green buildings. For the majority of our clients, we already provide a green blend program of natural products in addition to growth regulators, baits, traps as well as the least toxic traditional pesticides to control ants, cockroaches, rodents, bed bugs, and flies stored product pests, as well as other non-beneficial pests.
Mother Nature has her own version of green pest control. Many insects are considered beneficial. Ladybugs, lacewings, praying mantis, are a few examples of beneficial insect that are good for the environment.
The ladybug and their larvae will eat aphids, whitefly and mites. A single ladybug can eat over 1,000 aphids in its lifetime.
The Green Lacewing is an excellent predator. Green lacewing larva can consume up to 200 aphids or other prey per week. In addition to aphids, it will eat mites and a wide variety of insects, including thrips, mealybugs, immature whiteflies, and small caterpillars.
Praying Mantis eat a wide variety of garden pests. In their younger stages they eat aphids, thrips, flies & maggots, small caterpillars, leafhoppers, white grubs and other soft-bodied insects.
